Proper Care and Maintenance of Leather

Leather is a protein from the keratin class of proteins. Included in this class of proteins are hair, skin, wool, fingernails, feathers and leather to name a few. Leather is a degradable material, but with proper care on a regular basis you can dramatically slow down the cumulative effects from daily use and the environment that cause damage to your leather.

Over time the nutrients (moisture) applied to the leather during the tanning process evaporate causing extreme dryness on the top layer of the leather (dye). This loss of moisture is primarily caused by exposure to sunlight even if indirect and effects from substances transferred into the leather such as salts and oils from skin, dust, food or beverages stains. As a result you must stabilize the leather to reduce the effects from the environment by putting the moisture back into the leather.

Color Glo has developed specific products and techniques to clean and open up the pores of the leather for maximum absorption of our PH balanced conditioners to replace the normal loss of moisture that occurs over time. Since not all leathers are the same we have developed products to care for the three most widely manufactured types of leather; finished leather (protected), aniline, and nubuck leather.

Our goal is providing you with the proper care knowledge that is the key to realizing the value in your purchase for years to come whether it's the leather in your vehicle or the comfortable furniture in your home.
